Give your OLD Bag a Quick Trendy Makeover..................

Let me start off by saying this is not a new trend, this trend actually started in Los Angeles and then took over the Paris runway for Spring 2010. However I have been crazy about this trend and had been in search for my own fox tail to go on my bags. My quest for my fox tail was over in October when I found my fox tail in a vintage store. I finally wore my fox tail out in December and I don't think my friends really understood the trend. Well I just found my little fox tail on the floor and it's time to break it out again. I wanted to do this blog because I thought this was a great way to give a old handbag a quick makeover.

Here is one of my old Gucci bags from 2005
(one of my favorites)

I added the fur tail to the side of the purse.

David Kato, Brenda Namigadde, Elton John and the guy at the petrol station

This has pissed me off, made me sad and got me thinking! It brought me out of my inner-city bubble and made me think about those living a very different life to mine.

Quite by accident I came across two brilliant bloggers yesterday, both who were writing about homophobia. They come with very different stories but the message is still the same. The first is from Gay Fourth And Multiply who recaps the incredibly tragic story of David Kato from Uganda who was beaten to death with a hammer last week. Because he was gay! An excerpt…

David Kato

Can you imagine? If Sydney newspapers did this we’d strip the world of trees.

Ugandan newspaper
Gay Fourth And Multiply also tells the story of Brenda Namigadde who fled Uganda for fear of prosecution. While this degree of homophobia seems a problem far removed from our Western society, homophobia takes many shapes and forms. As GFAM points out, lets not forget the newsagent in Arkansas who felt he had to hide the Elton John magazine cover which featured a picture of him with his partner and child. God-forbid gays can love too.

Fimly shield my arse!
Which brings me to my next blogger and much closer to home. Cate Swannell tells the story of the obvious ignorance and homophobia of the guy in front of her in line at a petrol station. And this is on the Gold Coast! It’s a funny story, but her message isn’t. She confronts the ignorant bastard brilliantly, then, in her words… You’d think i’d rubbed an ice-cold dildo between his arsecheeks he moved that fast.”

We need to hear stories like this! The reason is that so many of us can go about life in our inner-city bubble – myself included – and lose sight of the homophobia that exists around us. I’ve always been very lucky and homophobia has rarely touched my life, compared to David Kato I have not a care in the world. I am incredibly grateful for that. I also think that is one of the reason’s why his story hurts so much, I live a life he could have only dreamed of.

But like I said, homophobia takes many forms, some of them incredibly subtle. We need to be alert and aware and pull people up on it whenever we get the chance. Just like Cate did. As lucky as we are in Australia we still have a ways to go. From my perspective, the most frustrating hurdle we are yet to overcome is marriage equality, the greatest legalised homophobia left in Australia. So while compared to David and Brenda’s issues it may fade in significance, it is still homophobia. And we all need to speak up about it.

Especially to our politicians and the ugly bogans at the petrol station.

If you were like me and didn't really listen to the news on David Kato last week then catch up here...

Wedding Dress By Taeyang

Summer in Sydney gets me all Hot!

Sunday’s in Sydney are brilliant. A Summer Sunday is GLORIOUS!!!

You wake here on a Summer Sunday morning and your options are literally endless. Take yesterday for example…

A beautiful day, warm but not too hot; a perfect day to work on the ‘tan that hides the kilos’. Or you could be like me and always have an urge for shopping and food on a day like that. Exercise, beer gardens, parks, beach, pools, bikes… all options on a perfect Sydney day. And that’s not including special events! There are chores to be done but stuff that. It’s about being lazy, selfish and Sydney-esque on days like Sunday.

So there was a lot of activity for us yesterday, and it was all classic Sydney. So let me pretend like I’m the Minister of Tourism pitching to Oprah to get her to venture into my little world.

Redleaf Pool is to the Eastern Suburbs what Cannes is to the south of France. This little slice of heaven sits between the money of Double Bay and the power of Woollahra. It’s a mix of the young glamour set, Sydney g(A)y-List and troubled parents thinking they can keep doing what they did in their youth even though they have 3 children under 5. There’s barely room to spread out your sheet-towel without poking a Speedo in the eye. But the best part of Redleaf is that there is a semi-decent café within a 2-minute shuffle from your towel. The beef burger with fruit chutney changed my life yesterday! Boyfriend, Miss Cal and I fried like bacon and feasted on eye-candy.

RedLeaf
As far as I’m concerned no weekend is complete without a whip-around the Mother-Ship – Westfield Bondi Junction. Having lived in walking distance during its construction and seeing first-hand its creation, I feel an affinity with WBJ that borders on maternal. It’s like coming home, especially now I am a Redfern-ite. As I often say “if you can’t get it in the Junga, you can’t get it”. Today it was about ties! Being bestman for upcoming Brother’s wedding I am in charge of ties (I’m not good with too much responsibility). Sadly I still couldn’t find the ties I need which makes me think they do not exist. That’s the power of the Junga.

WBJ at its finest.
A quick sidebar… Only at WBJ Woolworths would you have hot men wearing nothing but their Speedo’s serving you snacks. In the Fruit and Veg section no less. If you don’t believe me…

Now thats customer service!
Feeling completely inspired by Boyfriend, who in the last 6 months has become a Gym-Junkie, I tackled another Sydney icon for a late afternoon run, Centennial Park. Truth be known, I’d hardly call it a run, more a Cliff Young shuffle. But Centennial Park is spectacular at any time of day so the pain is worth it, it is my happy place, and obviously half of Sydney thinks the same. It was swarming with every walk of life –picnics, trapeze artists, dogs, bikes (I love a cyclist!), runners, walkers, soccer matches, horse-riders, the list is endless. What WBJ is to consumers, Centennial Park is to the leisure-seeker. The path around it is one big fashion catwalk. But note to parents, kids with training wheels on their bikes are just too much fun on the running track.

So you can cram quite a bit into a glorious Sydney Sunday without really trying too hard. And all of it just a little bit special! Summer in Sydney lifts your mood, makes you happy, and can be a really beautiful thing. Its also a fantastic perv at lots of hot people and can all be done on the cheap – two of my other favourite things.

Major Fashion Don'ts: By Miss E

Recently I asked Miss E to do a blog about the major fashion don'ts when stepping out for the evening.
Here is a word from Miss E:

So let’s jump right into it… Miss Glamor Puss herself asked me to give my thoughts on nightlife fashions. So here we go… I believe in telling the truth and nothing else but the truth, so help me God, LOL. Definitely, would never advise anyone to do anything that I don’t do myself. So please receive it in love.

I come to discover that the desire for dressing to impress is almost becoming distinct. So I went to www.dictionary.com to get a better understanding on the word impress and found the perfect way we should be when it comes to our fashion. Definition for impress – to create a favorable impression: draw attention to oneself.

Now to be quite honest, I haven’t really been inspired by anyone on the nightlife scene. Embarrassed or simply humored by some of the so called fashion statements that are being made when I step out for the evening.

So are here are a few ideas to keep in mind when you are stepping out on the town:

· Go ahead and schedule your hair appointment closer to the weekend, so you can look fresh to def.

· If you are not an expert in makeup go to your local makeup counter (the M A C counter at any Nordstroms) to make an appointment for that evening or to be shown techniques to enhance your look at a minimum of three product purchase

· Keep up with the current trends for the season

· Make sure your nails are clean and manicured- even a coat of clear top polish will do the job if you are not into color

· Invest in some staple pieces that you can alternate with numerous outfits(Ex. White button down, little black dress, black pumps)

· Make sure your shoes are not on their last leg… go ahead and get your shoes repaired

· Another great investment is a spank, body magic or body shaper giving you the shape and lift that we all need while in the process of getting in shape.

So at the end of the day…when you dress to impress you feel better about yourself. Some of days where I have felt my worst; I invested a little bit more time in my look with the results of a better day

Keep in mind even though we do not want to admit this; looks do matter. We are constantly judged by our appearance. Remember the first impression is a lasting one. You never know who you may run into when you are out on the town. You could meet the future boo, an investor in your dream or perhaps one of your favorite celebrities. So make a favorable impression. Be a fashion inspiration to others. Keep people guessing what you are going to do next! With head to toe styling …

Sincerely,

Miss E

LETTUCE WRAPS, LOTION & LOLLIPOP STICKS

Hi, followers! =) Hope your weekend is going fabulous.. Yesterday I spent the day lounging around with some of my girls, and today I spent the day with my VERY best girlfriend Ashley, and I must say.. it doesn't happen enough. I stay so overloaded with Cash that I find it near impossible to make time to just sit down & have a laugh with good friend. These past two days have been the exception, and not only have I enjoyed laughing until my stomach hurts, but the extra help with Cash doesn't hurt either! My friend Ashley has lived 4 hrs away for the last 2 years of our friendship, which just so happened to be the most important 2 years of my life. I got "knocked up", gave birth, and celebrated Cash's first birthday..and although Ashley lived far and couldn't be here frequently to watch Cash grow, she managed to make it here for these important milestones. She now (thank the LORD, for my own sanity!) lives only about 40 minutes away from us, so I have spent much more time with her. The other day she told me she was worried that Cash wouldn't "know" her because she hasn't been able to be around as much as she wanted to, but she was sadly mistaken. Today, Cash could NOT get enough of his Ashley.. (which was fine with me because I carry that 25 lb. rocks solid line backer around all day!)

Can't wait to watch Cash's love for her grow as much as mine has! I didn't manage to get a pic of the two today, (Cash was a MESS.. Whiney & sleepy!) but here's a picture of me & Ashley when we only lived a street away from each other in college. Good times!

I love the feedback I got from the Canvas's I made.. It feels nice to complete a project & actually be told it's cute! I have to admit that I'm not much of a crafter myself.. My creativity has always come out in the kitchen. My MOM, on the other hand, can make anything & everything out of absolutely nothing.. We always had the CUTEST homemade things growing up, so it's nice to know I can always lean on her for all of the fabulous ideas that come to my head. She's one crafty, lady! Along with spending more time with my girlfriends, I'd like to "craft" a little more & be better at it in 2011. It's still okay to come up with new New Year's Resolutions, right? We're still in January so I'm sure it's fine! ;) I'm now working on a Mardi Gras wreath for the door for February/March that I'll share when completed . I really wanted to put out one for Valentine's day out for the entire month of February, but J's response was "Wait.. you have to have one up for Mardi Gras Preparation AND through Fat Tuesday" so it looks like Valentine's Day decor will be officially skipped in my household. Oh, the joy of living with a man from New Orleans! ;) Can't wait to show ya'll the final project!
Lucky for you, (yes, you. All 5 of you who read this amazing blog) this is an insanely long blog because it's been a while since I've posted. I always get questions about what skincare/bath products I use for Cash. I know firsthand that as an expecting mother, it's difficult to walk around with the zapper (oh you know.. the crazy contraption they give you at Babies R Us when you're registering. Zapper works as a perfect name for it..) and "zap" a certain Shampoo/Lotion when you don't know what will work for YOUR baby. Bad news. I don't know what will work for YOUR baby either, but I DO know what worked for mine. These are the skincare/bath products that I can't live without for Cash:

Huggies Shea Butter Baby Wash:

Let me just start by saying that I LOVE me some Johnson & Johnson. We all love that "clean baby" smell, but you can't be afraid to venture away from the big pink bottle! Huggies Shea Butter Wash smells JUST as good (I think even BETTER!) than Johnson's and it leaves Cash's skin so so so smooth. We've never had a dry skin issue, and I know that Shea butter is a key moisturizer in MY skincare, so I figured Cash deserves the same! I can assure you, it's worth the try. It still has the "clean baby" smell.. Only it's more of a "my baby is clean, super soft & pampered smell!"

Johnson's Baby Lotion:

No. I'm not a hypocrite. You can venture away from the big pink bottle in baby wash. Just NOT baby lotion. Ever. Classic.

Aveeno Baby Daily Moisturizer:

As for Cash's face, I feel like it deserves an entirely different moisturizer. I wouldn't dare cover his gorgeous face in a highly scented body lotion (Again with that freakin big pink bottle!) I don't do it on mine, and I wouldn't do it on his! When I saw that Aveeno made a BABY version of MY daily moisturizer, I had to snag it.. And I'll NEVER go back! When I was pregnant, I wasn't aware of whether Cash would inherit my sensitive skin (THANKFULLY he didn't!) but if he would have, I would've been well equipped with this moisturizer. Trust me on this one!

Desitin:

Yeah. Okay. We all love the cute bottle & name of "Boudreaux's Butt Paste" but my baby's bottom is NOTHING to play about! Frankly,  I do NOT think it is a good diaper rash cream, by any stretch of the imagination! Cash has managed to steer clear from diaper rash, aside from serious times during teething, but the grainy consistency of Boudreaux's Butt Paste was NOT what I wanted for my child. I use Desitin not only for treatment but for PREVENTION. I put it on him every single night after a bath, and it is on the next morning when I change his diaper. This stuff is simply the BEST!

Noodle & Boo Sunscreen:

I have to admit, I LOVE my little brown baby, but I've also come to realize the importance of sun protection at an early age. Although (lucky for us) I can see my little man getting brown rather than burnt, I plan on keeping his pretty skin thoroughly coated throughout the entire summer, as I did last summer. My sunscreen of choice: Noodle & Boo. Noodle & Boo is like the Gucci of all baby skincare products.. They have everything from Shampoo to Rash Cream to THIS Fabulous Sunscreen. At a $22 price tag, it's a little high but it will last you the ENTIRE summer. I still have some leftover from last year! Totally worth it.. If you're interested in their Pediatrician recommended products, their website is:

www.noodleandboo.com

Let's get to the best part: FOOOOOOD! I love a good recipe that tastes like my restaurant faves. Call me crazy, but we tend to eat out once ever two weeks MAXIMUM. I love to cook, and love for us to eat at home as a family, not to mention the price tag on a week's worth of restaurant meals can be a bit alarming.. ANY P.F CHANGS FANS IN THE HOUSE!?!?? If so, I've perfected a copy cat recipe of their World Famous Lettuce Wraps, and I just can't get enough! For those of you who haven't had them, do NOT be turned off by the "lettuce" part. They are absolutely DIVINE! And healthy. Can't forget that one!

P.F. CHANGS LETTUCE WRAP REMIX

NEED:
- 3 tablespoons oil
- 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup water chestnuts (I did NOT use the water chestnuts because I pick them out anyway at P.F Changs, but if you like them, use a cup!)
- 2/3 cup chopped mushrooms
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 4 -5 large leaves iceberg lettuce
- S & P

"SPECIAL" SAUCE:
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/8 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon hot mustard
- 2 teaspoons water
- 1 -2 teaspoon garlic and red chili paste

STIR FRY SAUCE:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon rice wine vinegar

DIRECTIONS:
1. Make the special sauce by dissolving the sugar in water in a small bowl.
2. Add soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ketchup, lemon juice and sesame oil.
3. Mix well and refrigerate this sauce until you're ready to serve.
4. Combine the hot water with the hot mustard and set this aside as well.
5. Eventually add your desired measurement of mustard & garlic chili sauce to the special sauce mixture to pour over wraps.
6. Bring oil to high heat in a wok or large frying pan.
7. Saute chicken breasts for 4 to 5 minutes per side or done.
8. Remove chicken from the pan and cool.
9. Keep oil in the pan, keep hot.
10. As chicken cools mince water chestnuts and mushrooms to about the size of small peas.
11. Prepare the stir fry sauce by mixing the soy sauce, brown sugar, and rice vinegar together in a small bowl.
12. When chicken is cool, mince it as the mushrooms and water chestnuts are.
13. With the pan still on high heat, add another Tbsp of vegetable oil.
14. Add chicken, garlic, onions, water chestnuts and mushrooms to the pan.
15. Add the stir fry sauce to the pan and saute the mixture for a couple minutes then serve beside lettuce "cups."
16. Serve sauce on side. Enjoy!

Yummmm... can't wait for ya'll to try the Lettuce Wraps! Here's another Valentine's Day dessert.. I saw these STRAWBERRY flavored Marshmallows at the store, and couldn't help thinking about my favorite Valentine's dessert: CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES.. but a Marshmallow Version! I picked up a bag of the cute pink Marshmallows, a variety container of Valentine's Day sprinkles, lollipop sticks, and a bag of chocolate chips. I melted half of the bag of chocolate chips in the microwave in a medium bowl in 30 second intervals (took about a minute & a half!) I poked a lollipop stick into each marshmallow, and dipped it halfway into the melted chocolate & immediately topped it with sprinkles before drying. I found a piece of styrofoam around the house and stuck them through it to let dry. Aren't these the cutest? I would totally wrap these up as a Valentine gift for friends, or a "SWEET" party favor!

What the hell am I doing? I'll get back to you.

So I’ve been at this blogging thing for a grand total of 3 weeks now and I can not tell you how much I'm loving it! I still haven’t really worked out what I’m doing though. As you may have noticed. I’ve spent a lot of time looking at the blogs of some very cool people such as Woogsworld, StylingYou and So Now What (my yummy-mummies!) and the ‘cool idea’ ones such Jo Blogs and Born This Way. I think I need to spend some more time working out what the hell mine is about, but I’ll get there I promise.

As my tag line says… there will be some general topic areas. Television addict, publicity guru, pop-culture victim, political novice and professional homo. Nearly everything that happens in my life worth writing about can fit into one of these categories. The other topic that I love writing about is my Inner Circle. I have some very amazing, funny friends who are always up to something brilliant so its easy to write about them. The blog is also a way for me to show them how much I’m in awe of them and appreciate them. Having said that, I’m sure it’s hard for them to see themselves in writing but I’m sure they’ll let me know if and when it’s a problem. I can offer photo approval as a goodwill gesture.

The other difficulty I have is that I’ve drawn a line in the sand and will not write about anything connected with my work. There is no way I could write about work without breaching the confidentiality of my employer, clients or competitors. And this is obviously crucial cause I like being employed. Being ‘in’ television you can imagine the brilliant material I come across every day, damn it. You’ll have to wait for my tragic memoirs at the end of my working life for those stories. And the subsequent lawsuits.

Close as we'll get to work... In my office watching TV (again!)
What I am going to do is start a section One for the Memoirs. I’m a talker and much to my friends frustration I tell the same stories over and over again. I want to start getting them all down before I go senile and can’t remember anymore. I’ve had some weird, funny shit happen in my life. Yes, it’s a little self-indulgent but it means a lot to me to get this stuff down. There will also be some television stuff in there from shows and gigs that are long gone but for sentimental reasons they are still important to me. Will kick-start that stuff soon.

As my first ever boss in television said to me “Its not about you Steven!” which was quickly followed by “The publicist is never the story Steven”. Worked well for me professionally, but I still like it all about me personally. I do realise this blog so far hasn’t strayed far from the central topic of MOI, I promise to make it more diverse moving forward. Cause even I’m getting bored with reading about me.

But the undeniably best part of starting this is that I had no idea I loved writing so much. I write for work, which can be such a chore, here it is purely for pleasure and I absolutely love it. I love working out what to do each day and have even given up television each night to write it, and that’s huge for me. So I’m not real concerned that I have no real purpose or goal, I just love that I love writing.

And finally, please do not ever, ever hesitate to let me know what you think - good, bad or otherwise. I really want you to. I love an opinion even if I disagree. I'm just happy that you gave it a minute to read.

Thanks for that, xoxoxo

P.S. to celebrate this three week milestone I've gone for a make-over. Much cleaner and easy to read. Still not ideal but I will invest one day in having someone make it pretty for me.
