Okay, so maybe we don't have a chimney. Or a fireplace. But our stockings ARE hung oh so fabulously on the wall, in readiness for Santa to arrive tonight.. Here's my stocking; J thinks it fits me perfectly!
With two family Christmas celebrations out of the way, Christmas Eve is being spent baking cookies for Santa and relaxing at home watching Christmas movies ALL DAY. Christmas morning is all about OUR little family, and then we're off to my Nana's (Cash's GREAT Grandparents) to spend Christmas with my dad's side.. which means at least 30 crazy people in one house! Tonight we're "reading" (listening) to Cash's "Hallmark Recordable Storybook" version of Twas the Night Before Christmas from his Deedee. We recorded him the sweetest story, and "Santa Claus" (aka J) even made a guest appearance at the end of the book. It took us forever to record the book because we couldn't stop laughing, but after 5 or 6 attempts, it turned out perfectly. I know my little book worm is going to love it.

Yesterday was the annual toy drive for Operation Outreach: Stocking Stuffer, where Cash dropped off some of his old toys a few weeks ago.. We weren't there, nor did we need the recognition. The smile it put on my face to think of a deserving little boy playing with Cash's old toys was enough for me :)

Cash and I made some cookies for Santa, but of course we have to leave it out for him in a stylish way! CUTEST thing ever if I do say so myself..
If the "Santa" of your household doesn't go for cookies, (or the Slim Jim & Kahlua alternative I offered in a previous post!) this peppermint bark might be your best bet. It TRULY is "The Best Peppermint Bark in the World." I'll be back after all of the Christmas festivities with a ton of pictures of my Christmas cutie, and possibly a good story or two. Not to mention a blog make-UNDER to remove all my Christmas decor on here :( how depressing! MERRY CHRISTMAS YA'LL!!!!!
THE BEST PEPPERMINT BARK IN THE WORLD
Ingredients
8 ounces high-quality semisweet chocolate, broken into pieces
2 teaspoons canola oil, divided
1/2 teaspoon peppermint oil, divided
8 ounces high-quality white chocolate, broken into pieces
Candy canes, crushed
Directions
1.Lightly grease a 9x9 inch pan and line with waxed paper, smoothing out wrinkles; set aside.
2.Place the semisweet chocolate and 1 teaspoon of the canola oil in the top of a double boiler over just barely simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching. When the chocolate is melted, stir in 1/4 teaspoon of the peppermint oil. Pour the melted chocolate into the prepared pan, and spread evenly over the bottom of the pan. Refrigerate until completely hardened, about 1 hour.
3. Place the white chocolate and the remaining 1 teaspoon canola oil in the top of a double boiler over just barely simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a rubber spatula to avoid scorching. When the chocolate is melted, stir in the remaining 1/4 teaspoon peppermint oil. Pour the white chocolate directly over the semisweet chocolate layer; spread evenly. Sprinkle the crushed candy over the top and gently press in. Refrigerate until completely hardened. Remove from pan; break into small pieces and place in freezer for 15-20 minutes before serving. Santa will be thanking you later!

"And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?" - Dr. Seuss
