Hopefully the title was enough of a forewarning for ya'll.. Last night Cash & I, along with my friend Sheila (and her daughter, Khloe, who is a month older than Cash) embarked on our journey to go see "How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical" at the Hobby Center. To say it was disastrous is an UNDERSTATEMENT. Before I get started, let me just say that the trip in its entirety was NOT a disaster. We had some nice girl talk.. The show alone was absolutely BRILLIANT (One of the best I have seen at the Hobby Center in a while!) The actor who played the Grinch was fabulous, and really took the whole "Grinchy" persona to another level, and the narrator, who doubled as an older version of the Grinch's dog, Max, did a PERFECT rendition of the classic song "You're a Mean one, Mr. Grinch." He sounded EXACTLY like the narrator from the original cartoon. However, after sitting through that show with my child, I'm thinking about contacting the director of the show, and seeing if Cash can work as the understudy for Mr. Grinch himself! The show started at 8 pm, and he decided this would be a good day to stay up the ENTIRE day, without a nap. Here's a couple shots of him all dressed up, ready to go.. *sigh*
The only "good boy" moments he had all day..
The only "good boy" moments he had all day..
Deep thinking about how he'll behave at the show..
He's made his decision..
Coercing with the Grinch about how bad he plans to be during the show..
"Listen Khlo.. here's the plan. Let's be good until the show starts, and then we'll start the fun.. I'll give you the cue!"
I should've known that it was the makings of a disaster on the way to the show, when Little Khloe slept peacefully the entire trip downtown, as my child carried on, finished his sippy cup, and began sipping on HER sippy cup that he oh-so-slyly snuck out of her sleeping hands.. Well equipped with mini M&M's, Teddy Grahams, and re-filled sippy cups, we headed to the show..
Let me go ahead and say that Cash was NOT loud throughout most of the show. He sat eating M&M after M&M, and dancing to some of the songs. He has seen the movie 208349 times before, and loves the book, and I could tell he enjoyed some of the action for the most part. About 15 minutes before the show closed and sporting an awfully wet diaper, he began the tirade. Being that this was a KIDS show, I wasn't too worried about the yelling, but DID feel like it was my ticket to head to the nearest Emergency Exit. Before I could do so, however.. Ms. Bee-yotch Lou Who a couple rows back decided to give her anonymous input, loud enough to where I could hear it, but during a dark moment so she didn't have a protective Mama pounce over three rows of seats and claw her eyes out. "BRING THAT CRYING BABY OUT... PUH-LEEEEZ!" First of all, Ms. I'm-at-a-kids-show-with-no-kids, YOU ARE WATCHING HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! This is NOT the Houston Ballet. If you'd like a list of decent things to do on a Saturday night without having to hear a baby scream, I've got a couple of places you could go. For one, how 'bout a boxing ring? With just you and me? Let's go. Completely mortified, I sprinted out of the Exit, where Cash sat rather complacent for the last 15 minutes, where I caught the end of the show. Which again, was spectacular. Methodically, Ms. Bee-yotch Lou Who took the exit furthest away from where I was standing, to keep the hair on her head intact. Okay, I'm kidding. I wouldn't have pulled the old hag's hair out, but I DID think it was rather rude to yell that during a musical.. at a BABY for that matter! We both agreed that the next time we bring the kids back, it will be when they are "in their 2's" On a different note, I found this cute questionnaire in a online magazine, and decided to fill it out, in spirit of the holidays! Enjoy!
1. If I wanted to complete my Christmas list, and could get away with stealing one thing it'd be:
- Ehhh... ONLY ONE!?? Christian Louboutin Patent Rolando Pumps in Nude
2. My Christmas morning tradition is:
- Waking up early in the morning, checking to see if Santa ate the cookies & milk, opening presents, checking our stockings, then heading to Nana's house for Christmas there.
3. If I could ask Santa for one, completely decadent yet far-fetched wish (not item) for myself:
- A week long spa trip with Daddy working as a full time babysitter in an adjoining room, and coming to visit me in my own private luxurious room every 30 minutes with Cash. How fabulous would that be?!
4. My one tip to making the holidays special without spending money is:
- Christmas music & movies. You DO NOT have to buy these things either! I listen to music online through www.playlist.com and watch the holiday movie marathons on ABC Family! Another tradition we started last year, and plan to continue throughout Cash's life, is to give back some of his old toys to a local charity. This is the most satisfying experience the holiday's can bring, and hopefully Cash will feel the same as he gets a little older.
5. During the holidays, the games I play with my family is:
- Dominoes & Spoons. Since I can remember we've played these games at my Nana's house, and always have a great time.
6. The Holiday traditions I've carried from my childhood are:
- Oh, wow. Where to start?!? For one, we always open ONE gift on Christmas Eve. Setting cookies/milk out for Santa.. Baking Christmas cookies on Christmas Eve.. Ringing bells when the kids go to sleep to emulate Santa coming to bring presents.. Wearing cute Christmas PJ's..ALWAYS!
7. If I could get away for one Christmas-away-from-home, it would be to:
- New York City!!! Maybe Home Alone 2 just rubbed off on me, but I would kill to spend one Christmas at snowy Times Square, fighting off bad guys and making friends with a pigeon-lady. Okay maybe not the last part, but N.Y.C it is!
8. My one Holiday Food I just can't live without is:
- Carrot Cake.. Let's not even get me started..
9. My holiday style must haves are:
- Trench Coats. Ankle Boots. Thick Leggings. Pearls. Red Lipstick. Headbands. Scarves. TIMELESS!
10. I keep my Christmas Tree up from:
- Thanksgiving Day until the first week in January. My excuse is "Well..it's still winter?!"
Be back next time with a Holiday Home Tour, and some yummy Christmas snacks, and crafts!
