AND SO THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS..

We're officially only 1 week and 6 days away from Thanksgiving.. Seems like it's been a looong time since I've counted down weeks/days for anything.. since I was pregnant to be exact! I can remember being 16 wks 4 days and 3 hrs pregnant.. without a belly in sight, but being so proud to tell everyone how "bad my back was hurting.." HA! Anyway, that was totally off topic.. BACK TO THANKSGIVING! I know anyone with babies/young kids can relate as to how much MORE special holidays have become now that you have a child. Every year we go to my grandparents house for Thanksgiving Lunch, and to say there's "a lot" of food would be a blatant understatement. Turkey. Ham. Mac&Cheese. KILLER Homemade Stuffing. Green Beans. Black Eyed Peas. Cranberry Sauce. Yeast Rolls. Pecan Pie. Pumpkin Pie. Carrot Cake.. and the list miraculously goes on. I'll have to post a picture of the spread this year to tempt ya'll ;) Last Thanksgiving, Cash was only a month old! Here's a picture from last year:

Not his best picture in the world, but pretty darn cute for a 5 wk old! (I'm biased, of course!) Since Cash is 1 this year, I'm sure it'll be a much more ehhhh... vivacious Thanksgiving. Now on to the fun stuff!! I caught Martha Stewart this morning (I always seem to be busy doing SOMETHING during her show..) and she had the cutest remedy for making your leftover Halloween pumpkins "Thanksgiving appropriate." I kept passing my bunch of pumpkins by my front door with anxiety knowing that I'd have to dispose of them in perfectly good condition, but thanks to Martha.. I don't have to! As soon as I saw her work her magic on these bad boys.. I had to join in! So here it is.. You can thank me later ;)

"GOURD GOBBLERS"

WHAT YOU NEED:

•15 fried cornhusks, or construction paper (I used construction paper! Who, besides Martha or a tamale cook, would have cornhusks on hand?!)
•Red food coloring (I used a red marker!)
•Hole puncher
•Brown paper
•Hot-glue gun
•Turkey template
•Winter squash or gourd that narrows at stem (I used small pumpkins!)

Print out the turkey template here:

http://images.marthastewart.com/images/content/web/pdfs/2010Q4/msl_1110_gourd_turkey_template.pdf

You'll need twelve of the feathers, 2 head/neck templates, and 2 for the wattle. (Per turkey!)

Martha dyed the wattle in as mall cup of water with red food coloring. Being alot more lazy and less talented than Martha, I chose the easy route and colored them with red marker! Use the hole punch to punch out two eyes out of the brown paper to gule to the head template.

Use a hot glue gun to adhere the feathers together in a fan shape, and secure it to the bottom of the gourd/pumpkin. Shake ya tail feather! =) Glue together the edges of the neck and head, leaving the bottom and back open. Glue the wattle to the front of the neck. Open the bottom of the neck, and fit over the stem of the pumpkin/gourd. Glue into place. I covered the stem in glue first to make it simple.

VOILA! Who ever said fabulous had to be costly?
